at Horseshoe Lake

Horseshoe Lake

Horseshoe Lake

This is a small lake in the southeast corner of Oceana County, within the Manistee National Forest. Although it was beautiful and quiet the day I visited, I expect that in the summer this is a busy and noisy place. The Big O motorsport trail passes through the forest just north of here and this may be a popular site with that group

Camping- there are quite a few unofficial drive in primitive campsites on both the north and south sides of the lake.

Boat Launch- just a short, walk-in on the west side of the lake, but you could put in a small boat or kayak by hand. Very limited parking.

Fishing- unknown- please let me know if you have any information

Rest Rooms- none at the lake, there is a latrine at the Horseshoe Lake Motorsports parking lot just north of the lake
Potable Water- none

Access- sand roads
Restrictions- Forest Service regulations apply
Seasonality- lake probably freezes
Ecosystem- very small inland lake with marshy areas near shore, surrounded by mixed oak, pine forest
most recent date this info personally checked- May 2007
Additional Facilities- none
More- Baldwin District of the
Manistee National Forest

From Hesperia, go south on M-82 and 120 five miles to McKinley Rd. Turn west, go three miles to 184th St, and turn south. The lake will be on your right.
