SNOWSHOEING - I know of no trails designated specifically for snowshoeing. That said, some places are better than others. These are just some suggestions. Each winter, Ludington State Park offers snowshoe-making classes, and snowshoe hikes. See the Events calendar for dates.

  • East Loop Trail - wide trail, also used for skiing
  • West Loop Trail - wide trail, also used for skiing

• Logging Trail - groomed X-country trail, snowshoeing allowed on trail, warming shelter
• Ski Loops - groomed X-country trails, snowshoeing allowed on trail

• North Country Trail - single-track trail, snowshoeing is fun if there is adequate snow

  • Bottomland Trail - marked X-country trail, not groomed, snowshoeing allowed
• Victory Township Park - wide level old woods road

• Pond Nature Trail - snowshoeing allowed on trail
• Creek Nature Trail - snowshoeing allowed on trail, steps and bridge would require snowshoe removal
• Cross Country Race Course - snowshoeing allowed on mowed trail

• Big M - X-country trails and warming shelter, snowshoe beside the trails, not on their groomed surface
• Arboretum Trail - wide, level trail, about one mile- good practice on very easy terrain
• Orchard Beach State Park - about 2.5 miles gently rolling trail
• North Country Trail - single-track trail, snowshoeing is fun if there is adequate snow

Lake County go to Lake County map

• Bowman Lake - X-country trails, not groomed, snowshoeing allowed
• North Country Trail - single-track trail, snowshoeing is fun if there is adequate snow
• Sheep Ranch Pathway - 4.5 mile loops near Leverentz Lakes
• Silver Creek Pathway - 4 mile loop around Pine River

Oceana County go to Oceana County map

• Crystal Valley Cross-Country Ski Trail - X-country trails, sometimes groomed, use discretion to showshoe on path edges when groomed
• Hart-Montague Bike Trail - paved linear State Park, they suggest skiing and snowshoeing, but it's open to snowmobiles when there are 4+ inches of snow
• New Era Trailhead - parking for 2 cars, latrines
• Rothbury Community Park - parking for many cars, restrooms, more
• Shelby Industrial Park - parking for 3 cars, not an actual trailhead
• Shelby Trailhead - parking for many cars, latrine
• Pentwater Pathway- X-country trails, sometimes groomed, use discretion to showshoe on path edges when groomed
